Jax loves airplanes and puzzles, so airport-themed puzzles are a perfect match. Here are the best airplane puzzles for kids, ranked from easiest to hardest — all tested by our resident aviation fan.
1. Ravensburger Busy Airport Puzzle (35 Pieces)

Ages 3+ · 35 pieces · Easy
This was Jax's first real puzzle. It's 35 pieces showing a busy airport scene — a plane being loaded with luggage, food, and fuel. The pieces are big and chunky, so little hands can manage them. He did this one over and over when he was three. If your toddler loves airplanes, start here.
2. Ravensburger Above the Clouds Puzzle Set (3 × 49 Pieces)

Ages 5+ · 3 × 49 pieces · Easy-Medium
Three separate 49-piece puzzles with colorful flying machines. The pieces are a bit bigger than standard, and each one comes with a picture guide. Jax moved on to these after the Busy Airport puzzle. Great value since you get three puzzles in one box. (We don't have a photo of Jax with this one — we donated it to Goodwill after he outgrew it.)
3. Ravensburger Construction at the Airport Puzzle (100 Pieces)

Ages 6+ · 100 pieces · Medium
An airport under construction — cranes, vehicles, and planes. Jax liked this one because it combined two of his interests. It's 100 pieces, so it sits nicely between the easier puzzles and the 150-piece Airport Central below. Lots of detail in the scene, which kept him looking for things he'd missed.
4. Ravensburger Airport Central Puzzle (150 Pieces)

Ages 7+ · 150 pieces · Medium-Hard
150 pieces, busy airport scene. This is the hardest Ravensburger puzzle Jax has done so far. It took him a couple of sittings, but he was proud when he finished it. The scene is packed with detail — planes, vehicles, passengers, and ground crew — so there's a lot to talk about while building.
Which Puzzle Should You Pick?
Choose based on your child's age and experience:
- Ages 3-4: Start with the Busy Airport (35 pieces) — big chunky pieces, satisfying to complete
- Ages 5-6: The Above the Clouds set (3 × 49 pieces) gives three puzzles to work through
- Ages 6-7: Construction at the Airport (100 pieces) is a good step up
- Ages 7+: Airport Central (150 pieces) is the most challenging and rewarding
All of these are Ravensburger puzzles, which means high-quality cardboard pieces that fit together precisely — no peeling or bending.
